Chett hooked up with a girl he met on Tinder about a week before he submitted his story to us. He thought the girl seemed smart, innocent, had a stable impressive job, and was “clean” because she’d just gotten out of a long-term relationship.
The two talked for about a week before went on an actual date at her favorite restaurant, and afterward, Chett decided to walk her home. She had to work the next day so he didn’t expect her to stay out too late. But while they were en route, she suggested they grab drinks at a bar near her apartment. He agreed to go, and before they knew it they’d ordered a second round of drinks, and were completely wasted.
She invited him inside her place, and told him he could stay until he sobered up a bit. You can imagine what happened next. The two became casual sexual partners, and had sex every time they met over the next several weeks.
Then, Chett began to feel pain when urinating, and noticed some blood in the toilet. This was alarming because he’d never really been sick and this girl from Tinder was the only person he’d slept with in the last several months.
Blinded by love, or lust, he ignored his body and continued to see her. Then he met Amy, another girl on Tinder whom he had a lot more chemistry with. They also had sex the first night they met, and this time it was unprotected so Chett expected it to be incredible. To his surprise, it was quite painful. It was so painful and unbearable they had to stop. What a buzzkill…
The next day, he went to a doctor to find out what was going on. Then he was diagnosed with gonorrhea.
His world collapsed; he’d never had an STD before.
He was unsure who he’d gotten it from, but assumed it was the second Tinder date. He felt guilty because if he hadn’t gotten it from her, he’d definitely given it to her. He was ashamed because he’d have to talk with both of his recent sexual partners and either accuse or accept that he caught/shared it with both women. And he was experiencing more pain than he’d ever felt in his genitals.
He mustered up the courage to ask his first and frequent hookup, Lindsay. She laughed and felt completely betrayed that he’d “cheated” on her, telling him she had only been seeing him to show that she was serious about their relationship. He begged her to get checked but she refused, and stopped answering his calls.
When he spoke with his second date, Amy, she admitted that she’d slept with another guy from Tinder the night before meeting Chett. They never discussed his sexual history, but she’d also slept with 3 other people over the last few weeks and thought she should also get tested. From this, Chett learned to never judge a book by it’s cover and to always use protection.
